AASL Winter Captains,

We're now past the half-way mark for our winter sports and many leagues are already on its way to the play-off games. On behalf of AASL President Megan Shoup, our referees Steve Shoup and Leonard Kwok, I thank you all for helping us towards yet another successful season. As always, we welcome any suggestions and comments that you have about improving our league. There are two main events left in the Winter 2010 Season and we hope that you can help us promote these events.

First, we have the Winter Beer Olympics this Saturday, Feb. 20, at Tom Tom. It is a charity event with $100 of each registration going towards the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. If your team is planning to enter this activity, please e-mail me by tonight so that I can add your team to the schedule. We currently have 6 teams registered and it'll prove to be an exciting - if not hilariously funny - afternoon.

Second, we are combining the St. Practice Day Bar Tour and the End of Season (EOS) Party on Saturday, March 13. The bar tour begins 2:00 PM at Mister Days and includes 4 or 5 different stops with each bar offering $2 Millers, $4 Jameson shots, $8 Car Bombs, $4 Absolute Shamrocks, and half-prized appetizers specials. The cost is $10 per person but it includes the official St. Practice Day Bar Tour t-shirts (see details below for the logo) for the first 150 people and 4 kegs at the end of the tour. For players unwilling to brave the bar tour, they can simply join us at the EOS Party at Sobe starting 7:00 PM. The cost is $7 per person to access the league's 4 Golden Kegs.

Lastly, we encouage everybody interested in playing kickball to consider our affiliate league, CHASE Kickball. We know that a lot of people already play for NAKID, WAKA, and DCKickball but CHASE Kickball is the reason why AASL is able to offer more parties, more activities, and more benefits. CHASE will offer free registrations for all AASL Winter Sport captains for any of its Spring conferences (Adams Morgan, Constitution, District, or Downtown). Simply enter your team name as the reference code and skip the payment process. If that's not enough of an incentive, please read the Top 10 Reasons below why CHASE Kickball is now the best kickball league in town.

TOP 10 REASONS TO SIGN UP FOR CHASE KICKBALL

We know that there are a lot of kickball leagues and acronyms around DC. So much so that it probably doesn't matter what league you join because you'll end up having fun anyway. But let me give you ten reasons why you should convince everybody to consider joining CHASE Kickball before signing up with another league.

  1. Until Feb. 22, it's only $47 to sign up (we're one of the cheaper leagues around town)
  2. Each team gets a keg of beer to host its own house party mixer*
  3. Everybody's invited to a free flip cup tournament and free tailgate party with DC United
  4. We host the only Adult Field Day (think tug-of-war & 3-legged races with beer available)
  5. We actually organize a 3-hour boat cruise with an open bar (a.k.a. Booze Cruise)
  6. We organize Boomerang Bus trips for tubing, wine tours, and roller disco nights
  7. We're the only league to charter a bus for an Atlantic City field trip
  8. We offer discounts, gift certificates, and promo codes to local business & restaurants
  9. We throw parties at places like Public Bar and Midtown Loft
  10. We're the only league to host a pool party
  11. BONUS - We really do more than just kickball ...

Basically, CHASE Kickball does everything that all the other DC kickball leagues do but we host more activities and we do it cheaper.

* ADMO Conference gets a free keg after each game instead.

March 13 - St. Practice Day Bar Tour w/ AASL

It happens every year. You didn't put in the requisite amount of training, and when St. Patrick's Day rolls around, you're not prepared. You planned to party all day long, but you conk out sometime in the afternoon because you don't have the stamina.

Don't let it happen this year. AASL's "St. Practice Day" Bar Tour will take place Saturday, March 13, and is designed to get you in fighting -- well that's a bad choice of words -- in tip-top shape for the big day. And there's even a keg of gold at the end of the because this year's St. Practice Day Bar Tour concludes at the Winter Sports End of Season Party.

Participating bars will include: Mister Days, Clarendon Grille, 11th, and Sobe. T-shirts will be made for the first 150 participants and prizes available for those who brave the tour.
